Newport Italianfest kicks off

The 32nd annual celebration of Italian heritage and culture is happening this weekend at the Newport Riverfront in Northern Kentucky.

Newport Italianfest will run from Thursday night through Sunday.

In addition to plenty of authentic Italian food dishes, the festival will also feature cooking contests, live music, games and rides.

Italianfest was named a top 20 event for June by the Southeast Tourism Society, and officials expect more than 100,000 visitors to attend the festival over the next four days.

"Newport Italianfest is a cherished tradition that brings our community together to celebrate the vibrant Italian heritage that has enriched our city for generations. This festival not only offers a taste of Italy with its delicious cuisine and lively music but also showcases the spirit of Newport," Newport City Manager Tom Fromme said.
