The Newport Entertainment District
Let’s keep Monmouth Street vibrant, walkable, and full of life—just like it’s always been.
Welcome to the NED!
A Fresh Take on a Historic Tradition
The Newport Entertainment District (NED) is where Newport’s history of hospitality meets new energy and modern experiences. Established in 2023 by city ordinance, the NED spans Monmouth Street from 3rd to 11th Streets—bringing new visibility, vibrancy, and opportunity to the heart of Newport’s historic downtown.
For generations, Monmouth Street has been the cultural and commercial backbone of the city—from the days of streetcars and riverfront trade to the golden era of theaters and nightlife. The NED builds on that legacy with a revitalized focus on foot traffic, community gathering, and small business support.
What Makes the NED Unique?
Open-Container Privileges
During designated hours and special events, patrons can carry alcoholic beverages outside of bars and restaurants—as long as they’re in official NED cups. It’s a safe, social way to explore all that Monmouth Street has to offer.
-
NED Hours: Daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
-
Alcohol must be purchased from a licensed vendor inside the district
-
Drinks must be in NED-approved cups
-
No outside alcohol or reusing of cups allowed
-
All state and local alcohol laws remain in effect
Clear signage throughout the district marks its boundaries and ensures a smooth, safe experience for all.
